My 5 year old was just in the refridgerator picking out his grapes. It would of been a tough recovery had he been bit. This was after we thought we thoroughly washed them straight from Costco.

Thanks for sharing that though, gotta keep my eyes open for one of them buggers now. It's easy to forget where fruits and veggies come from, and what could be living among them. Thank god nobody was hurt!

picture shows a top heavy hourglass typical of a western (southerns [L. mactans] often tend to be a bottom heavy or anvil shaped hourglass and northerns [L. variolus] have a broken hourglass of two triangles facing each other)...label on the package says California which is within the common range for westerns.

Widows in general are harmless. Unless a female is guarding an egg sac you kind of have to really harass one to get it to bite (or for example stick a foot into a shoe where one is trapped with no where to go to escape).
