Do I need to hibernate my snake even though I am not going to breed it?

The two reasons to hibernate/brumate a garter snake are to stimulate mating and when the snake goes off food on its own in order to prepare itself to hibernate. If it keeps eating all winter and you don't plan to breed it, there's no need to hibernate it. Also, garters will frequently breed without hibernating, but if you are serious about breeding them its a good idea.
