I cant find any ficus or pothos plants at any home depots or lows that don't have fertilizers or pestecides in them. where do you guys get your plants from.

Unfortunately, you will not likely find them so you will have to work a little. All HD, most garden centers & nurseries will use synthetic ferts and posssibly pesticides. Buy the plant, give it a good watering (let it drain - don't drown it!). If you live in a warm climate you can do this every day to help leach the fert, etc. from the soil. Also wash the leaves, both side - top and bottom - with water and mild dishwash soap. Rinse them well. Then repot it. If you do not know how to re-pot go to link below.
I am sure some of us (obsessed folks - (did I say that?)) put more energy in to this than others, but having a veiled...well, you'll no what you need to do

thanx. So i drain the soil for a while and wash the leves off really good. then i repot.is that right

The plant should be well-watered before you pot anyway b/c the roots stay moist. One change regarding potting - unlike what it may say in the article you want to wash the soil from the roots. The point is to have all new fresh soil. As for washing the leaves it would be easier to do before you repot.
