colour change?

mrellis1181 Nov 13, 2004 02:22 PM

Hi, i have a common x columbian boa (red tail). She is about 6 months old. She has over the past few days changes colour though, she was very light on the top of her head with normal saddles but the saddles have darkened and the top of her head is more of a browny/subtle orange colour. I'm sure she's not due a shead and she seems fine.

Can anyone 'shed' any light on this? :^)

when a boa is either cold or stressed it tends to get dark.. check your temps etc etc.. and if you handle them alot , or if shes in a place where theres alot of traffic she might also get stressed .. so check all those things to make sure they are fine and then give her a few days and she will turn back to her normal color

Sounds like you have a Common X that has some Hog blood in it?
The reference to the "orange" color is where I`m guessing/referenceing from.
The color changes your referring to are they daily(light to dark)
Is it staying dark for 24 hrs and or days at a time ?
Or (morning/late evening) ? Lighter in the late evening and then darker during the daylight hrs ?

If its a consistant daily (morning/evening)color change its a process known as
"Metachrosis" which is a common trait of Hog Island and other insular locales.
Do you have a pic of this snake ?I would like to see it if possible.

... and after.... She's been like this since friday. The temperatures are fine, they haven't changed and she doesn't seem stressed!
