Crazy swimming

snailfan Nov 13, 2004 04:51 PM

I have a 10 inch slider and a 8 inch one in a 55 gallon tank. I will be getting a 125 gallon tank, don't worry!. When I pass the tank the large female starts swimming like crazy against the side where I pass. It will even do this after I feed her. Once it kept doing it for about 10 minutes. The female could have eggs, so her appetite would be much higher, but I do feed her a lot.

Mine always do that, and they are both male. They are just beggers, no matter how much you feed them they will beg for more. That is why it is so easy to overfeed them, which is very dangerous for their health. If you think she may have eggs, take her out and let her spend a few hours a day in a tub of sand or dirt, so she can lay her eggs.

Do I have too if I don't want the eggs?

Thanks,

well if you dont... the female slider could lay the eggs in the water and then cause a HUGE mess in the tank. but if you want to clean up a mess, then keep her in the water! the wise thing would be for you to let her out in sand or dirt so that she can lay the eggs, because odds are unless you incubate (there is also a chance the eggs aren't even fertile) they probably won't survive anyways!

So I just put her in a bucket of sand?

Thanks,
