savanah water bowl question

Janel Nov 13, 2004 05:18 PM

hi everyone- my first time posting here...
"Puff", my savanah, used to occasionally use his water bowl as a toilet, but now he does it all the time! I can clean out his bowl and within an hour he will have crapped in it again. I'm getting frustrated and wondering... does he need a bowl big enough that he can crawl into? Right now his bowl is big and he likes to sit in it (and let loose in there). Sometimes I put him in the tub to soak and he loves that too. If I switch to a smaller bowl just for him to drink out of, would this be bad? Puff is close to 2 feet long (estimate)

you may find even with a smaller bowl he defecates in it. Almost all of my monitors use there water bowls to defecate in at some point.

My old savannah did the same thing and I have to say it was truely a blessing in disguise. I had to change and clean the water bowl everyday anyway, so that saved me the trouble of tracking down the feces in his enclosure. Made keeping the enclosure clean much much much easier.

My ackies currently like the top of their basking stack, the smell is lovely under that nice hot lamp. And if I don't get it cleaned up quick enough, they will do so themselves by pushing it over the side, meaning I now have two spots to clean (one I have to find if they felt like burying it).

I would add a second smaller bowl just to have a second source of clean water. He/she might decide to use both as their bathroom or not, but it gives another option to your monitor.
