slugs as feeders for small snakes

cdneh Nov 13, 2004 08:33 PM

hey everyone

i've kind of hit a wall. i've been looking for some distributor which would (for some odd reason) be able to supply live garden slugs. google is hopeless, all i can find is information on pesticides, so i thought maybe someone here would at least be able to point me in the right direction. its getting cold up here (toronto) and i just dont want to have to feed my snakes worms all winter. any ideas on where i might find some?

I tried feeding slugs to my garter snakes for eons. All I ended up with was a tank of slugs.
I switched to mini nightcrawlers ( called dillies in some areas), and the snakes devoured them.
I dont think you'll find slugs anywhere. Leeches, worms, but not slugs.
If anything, find a fishing bait supplier. Although in 40 years of fishing, I've never heard of anyone using live slugs for bait. it's worth a shot.

These are very expensive but you can get slugs here and maybe the cost would be worth it for a starter colony:

Carolina Biological Supply Company

This place sells snails, slugs, mantids, silkworms, and many other living organisms for class room use. There are probably other suppliers and if you would like to find them just type in biological supply in your search.
