Interested in snake bite pics and opinions on strength of bites

toiletoctopus Nov 13, 2004 10:05 PM

Hi everyone,

Thank you for such a great forum, and great information on snakes. I'm starting to get interested in snakes, and there's one other question I've never had answered. Which snakes have the worst bites, and which one has the bite that will inflict the least damage? Any pics would be great, so that they could illustrate what a snake species can do. Thanks a lot!

Where exactly does your interest in this topic land? If you are interested in getting a snake that won't "tear you up" I would suggest a smaller, calm snake like a corn. Actually, I have 13 snakes (mostly North American Ratsnakes...corns included) and only one was ever a biter. He calmed down before he got big enough to draw more than a few drops of blood. So picture this: A tiny scratch and a wee drop of blood. :D

Ratsnakes have moderate bites, just some initial pain (not much), a little blood, and a really cool scab while it's healing.

Watersnakes and arboreal pythons and boas leave pretty bad bites. Large snakes leave some damage regardless of the species.

If your ever unfortunate enough to get bit by a gaboon viper, they have the longest fangs of any snake - sometimes reaching 2 inches in length.

>>Which snakes have the worst bites

I guess that depends on what you mean...
Lots of venomous snakes can kill you...
Russells Vipers and Puff Adders do tremendous tissue damage...
Indigo Snakes bite HARD!
Big Python bites can bruise and requires stitches...
Milksnakes grab hold and really clamp down but are small

and which one has the bite that will inflict the least damage?

Blindsnakes have not teeth and tiny jaws. If one managed to bite you, I doubt you would even notice.
