Today I was reading one of my numerous snake books....and found out that assuming the eyelash VIPER is viperidae is wrong!!!!!!

The book I was reading is "snakes of the world" and I guess I ASSUMED that the eyelash VIPER was part of the viperidae family. According to my book, the eyelash viper is part of the crotilidae family............Funny thing is I've had my eyelash for about 2 years, and the book for about 4 years. Just finding this out today, I suppose that means I dont pay much attention to what I read LOL. If you cant laugh at yourself, who can you really laugh at??? (aside from me???)

Don't laugh at yourself just yet. Majority consensus is that the Eyelash viper is indeed in the family Viperidae, Subfamily Crotalinae.

Whether you regard the pitvipers and the pitless vipers as subfamilies Crotalinae and Viperinae of the Family Viperidae, or as two separate families Crotalidae and Viperidae is really pretty arbitrary. Most people nowadays tend to go for the first option (two subfamilies).

Cheers,
