Some beginnger frogs would be the green tree frog, white tree frog, and firebellied toads. The only problem with the 40$ limit imo is that the uva bulbs can be expensive. Others might get different prices but for a basic set up not including a tank and cover: Substate eco earth or bed a beast 4.99, branches for climbings 10$ for a few, water dish if you have something low and easy to escape 0 otherwise about 5-10$, I use the slim line light fixtures which are about 30$, vitamin dust about 6$, water conditioner unsure, and then the cost of food which varies. Hope this helped. Like I said you may be able to find better prices but this is what I have found. Good luck.

yea,but i thought they were nocturnal and dont need uvb?

They are nocturnal but they still need the UVA light. I don't believe they need the uvb that is more so for reptiles I could be mistaken though.

cant they get direct sunlight instead?

AnnoyingGuy12 Nov 14, 2004 12:20 PM

I really wudnt put it in direct sunlight becuase the frog cant move out of it when it gets hott and sometimes can die from the glass from the tank heating up. I dont know about partially putting it in sunlight but i just woudlnt do it. Whites Treefrogs are easy. I would get them for ur mom cause my mom adores mine

green tree frogs are often considered beginner frogs because they are cheap, small and bright. They are on the more delicate side though. They are more particular about temp and humidity. A whites tree frog is a better choice as they are hardier. Fire belly toads seem more difficult too because you have to solve the land water issue as well as make it easy enough to clean.
