What to do about neglective pet stores!

AlteredMind99 Nov 14, 2004 12:34 PM

Lots of people make posts asking what they should do when they notice awful conditions in pet stores. I know up here in maine we have a State Inspector named Tom Eddy, who comes around routinely and inspects pet stores. The guy is wondefully anal about animal care, and thinkings nothing about shutting down pet stores that don't stand up for his expectations. I mean, when i worked at petco he gave us crap for having too many G.Pigs in one enclosure, and it was only 3 G.Pigs in something the size of abouta 50breeder. He is great! Im not positive if every other state has one of these guys, but its worth checking out, try to find the state inspector, they work for the Dept of agriculture and wildlife. If you find him, or her, get them on the case of those neglective pet stores!!!!!!

#1 quit shopping at them, tell your friends to quit shopping at them. I can't believe how many posts I see that say "I rescued a dragon from a pet store that did this or that". You didn't "rescue" anything, you supported a business and their practices by giving them your money so that they could stay in business. As long as we keep giving them our money they'll keep doing what they do.

I'll have to agree to that. Most pet stores just care about profit not the animals. Trying to stop some of the billion dollar a year petstore company is not an easy task. About the best way now days is thru the web. Believe me I hate it when I am forced to buy something at one of these stores when I run out of feeders or a heat lamp breaks.
