I think I may be leaving here for a while,...

brianSmith Jun 30, 2003 05:35 PM

It seems to me that there has been a "turnover" of sorts here the last few weeks and nothing much of any real relevance is posted very often any more. It also seems that a lot of the old timers just don't come here very much any more. Perhaps there is a direct correlation between the two changes. As a result the forum, to me anyways, is very lacking and with more frequency I regret taking the few minutes to pull up the pages and leave here feeling disappointed and even a little sad. These forums used to be so stimulating for me. Now it seems repetative and almost mundane.

I do not intend to offend any of the young herpers that post here and are just learning about their first burmese pythons. I urge you all to keep posting and finding out all you can. My intended message here is really more about what I miss,.. not so much about what remains here.

You will be missed Brian. You are right i use to get excited about looking at the forums on KS. Now seems like Bob has it going on. His forums usually stays busy.

First of all, let me say thank you to all of you that answered my post. Your instant support and warm concern was/is refreshing and appreciated. Just to see many of your names prior to opening and reading your posts was/is a comfort. It's kinda weird, but even though you sit behind this inanimate monitor and type away on this seemingly impersonal keyboard,. you really seem to get to know others that you have never met before in person. And when you guys are gone, it's like a friend is on vacation or has moved away.

Rob,.. I hope you find more time soon when things at your new center smooth out. I always enjoy reading your posts, and nothing is more of an self esteem boost than when you say something like, "I agree with Brian on this one." lol

Amanda,.. how very flattering. Thank you. Yes, of course you are welcome to email me any time. I enjoy snake talk just as much in email as I do here,.. if not more due to the more personable atmosphere.

Tom, thanks a bunch for your support as well. I know that Bob's forums are very busy and often interesting, but I have some minor conflicts with a few of the members and so I choose to come here. It's copacetic.

The same thanks goes to you too Marcia. You are certainly one of those people that always post something of relevance and dripping with insight. It isn't often that one can make me say, "Wow,.. I never thought of that before,.. how true!" But you have done it several times.

John,. as usual you crack me up. Yeah,. you are probably dead right,. it's forum burnout. But really,. if all you guys were here daily,. I seriously doubt I'd be experiencing the burn. It used to be kicking in here at all times. It was great. I'd like to get that back again.

And Rotten (Sorry man, I forgot your name) That makes me feel good you referring to me as a pro and all that. But I really must humbly say that there is really no such thing as a reptile pro. Maybe more experience or less experience or knowledgeable,.. but never 100% professional. Not a day goes by that I don't learn something new, or a week goes by that I don't do something stupid and almost get my face taken off. lol. It's like Bonnie (VA Rescue) said in the thread about burm aggressiveness,... we get complacent when we foolishly consider ourselves to be pros and then we make mistakes. I suppose to some degree the danger will always be a part of the business/hobby of keeping giant snakes,.. but when we put ourselves in danger due to an inflated ego that's when we have to re-evaluate our self image. My snakes continually remind me that I am not all that great when I slip up, though.

And to the rest of you that responded to my sniveling, pathetic, self pitty-filled post,... thanks for your support. If you guys just stick around then this place will get shakin again and I won't have to go away feeling all neglected.

Thanks guys.

I email you sometime Brian for advice and discussions on genetics and education?

I've learned so much from your posts and don't want to just read the same questions over and over. I would like to continue learning new and more advanced stuff.

Brian, I here what you are saying...I feel the exact same way. As you have seen, I have really cut back on my participation on the forum. I have found that it does a lot of good to take a break from time to time....unfortunately, my break may be permanent due to a wildlife center that is really busting at the seams (in a good way), hundreds of herp programs on the schedule, my own breeding and research projects and trying to make sure that I put my family first and foremost; not much time leftover to contribute but I try to get on every now and then. The forum will be missed in your absence but I have a feeling that you'll be back but if you aren't, I don't blame you a bit.

I too have been frequenting this forum less and less due to the lack of interesting topics. People don't even seem to post any nice photo's these days. I mean, has Corey Woods not bred his granites this year. Has Bob Clark not got any new morphs? Is nothing going on in the Burm world?

Maybe we should all make an effort to use our limited free time to at least post something, every now and again?

It is good to leave and take a break. I do it every few weeks. I understand what you are saying about missing something. I miss it also.

Brian, ya can't leave. First off the new peeps need pros like you in here. Your advice is one that can always be counted on. If no one replies, you always will reply to someones question, and I am sure it is greatly appreciated by all. At least if you leave at least check once a week and see if there is somthing that someone has asked that no one has responsed to.

meretseger Jun 30, 2003 08:07 PM

Why'd you change your login from BrianSmith to brianSmith? Is that your undercover name?

JohnLokken Jun 30, 2003 08:13 PM

You are just experiencing forum burn out that's all. Happens to the best of us. I just tend to take a little break........Then come back all refreshed. (You were talking about going number two right?) LOL! Just give it a break for a while.........You'll be fine.

Ya man. It really does suck that your choosing to leave. I know im prolly one of the new burm owners that floods the forum with one stupid question or another, but i respect the fact that no matter how dumb the question, I could always count on seeing BrianSmith as one of the replies. So it would be great if you reconsider. I mean it was your advice that got my snake eating again. That has to tell you something. So just reconsider this man. For all of us. I know we wont let you down.

Hi Brian, I'm really sad to hear this. When I read one of your posts I can always count on it being one of experience and reason (not always the case on these forums). I hope you will still stop by occasionally and say hi. I know I don't post here all that often but I rarely go a day without reading through all the forums that interest me. Well, take care and best of luck with yourself and your animals, Scott Sullivan.
