..Went looking for other snakes, specifically agkistrodon, but only saw this rather drab looking (impending shed is obvious) mangrove salt marsh snake this morning.
Oh well.... beats SNOW!

"But soft, what light through yonder window breaks? Tis the east ...", in the southern US and that snake is sunning! This, while I scrape ice off my windshield each morning!
I'm so depressed. But thanks for sending the sunshine up.

How about putting a stamp on its snout and sending it to me? An ugly snake is better than no snake.

...but I think it's beautiful

Nice picture of a healthy looking snake! I need to head down there some time and do some get some wild photos of Mangroves. I still haven't seen compressicauda in the wild.

... if you ever get down this way. This guy was in St. Pete and not where I usually look for them. I have found some ruby red ones in this area though as well. When my son wanted to show his brother just how docile they are, he gently lifted the snake and you could clearly see the tail wrap around the branch. Much as a rat snake might do. When you do not startle them and they don't feel threatened, they will not bite or musk--unlike many other nerodia--as you well know I have fed them while holding them or as they sit in the tree. Unbelievable snakes.

"I still have'nt seen compressicauda in the wild ..." or yellowbellies or redbellies or bandeds or diamondbacks or ...
ruby red Mangroves!!?
Beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder (or you always want what you can't have, in my case).
Keep the pictures coming guys.
