I think there is someone in Twin Falls, and my daughter and son-in-law keep them, have a ranch "down wind" from mine. We originally got into it together. Where is Greenleaf? I live in the "Pahsimeroi" actually close to Mt. Borah. SE Idaho isn't a place where "normal" people would consider keeping rainforest frogs.

hi,
i'm sw idaho. greenleaf is just about 30 miles west of boise. there is someone in idaho falls who have darts (azureus and fantasticus). i think i know the gentleman in twin. he works for the university right? i met him when i did a presentation for the idaho herp society in boise.
that is a very nice list of frogs you have. maybe we will run into each other some time. do you do much with the herp society?

I have a daughter and grandson who live in Boise now. I've never been introduced to the herp society, but it might be interesting.

Nice pics, but very tiny frogs! Wow!

slaytonp Nov 16, 2004 06:26 PM

These retics are indeed tiny. They are probably well under 1/2 inch, and are mature, at about 6 months old now. They don't know they're tiny, either. I don't know about other retics, but these are among the boldest and aggressive frogs I have. They just think they owne the place, which they do, of course, and aren't afraid of anybody.

The second picture is of three of my four blue auratus that are usually so shy you have trouble seeing them at all. They are much, much larger, perhaps 1 1/2+ inches. They must have just been feeling especially feisty when I took this photo. They are all females and appeared to be having an arguement, so all but one didn't notice me and my camera. The fourth one skittered away before I snapped the shot. They had been slapping each other at the time I caught this, but I've never seen them wrestle or ride each other like tincs, galacs and imitators do.

hi,
i have to second what patty said. i have many different darts and i have to say that my retics are one of the boldest. i have 1.2. that are just about a yr old. they don't mind me watching them for hrs.
they are very small, and more work should go into makeing sure you have a secure cage for them. all-n-all they are a great dart (not a beginner frog but close) and once you get them you will love them.

The "secure cage" is a must. All darts are escape artists, and if a fruit fly can escpape, a thumbnail frog will also do it. There is nothing worse than discovering your $150.00 apiece frogs mummified on the floor because there was something cocked askew or unsealed on the tank.
