gurnham, your ramp?

geckogrl6 Nov 14, 2004 08:31 PM

I love that it's all natural, and picking it up yourself gives it that extra something, but here is my problem. One or two of my girls (particulalrly the one sitting on the shelf) is missing most of her claws, I think she only has 2 or 3 in front. I'm concerned about her being able to go up (and esp. DOWN) something that round and that steep. She currently takes a flying leap down, and it really worries me. I was thinking maybe get a 3 in wide peice of balsa wood (like for models?) and use that for a more gradual (read: handicapped) ramp for her. This may be moot b/c she's the one coming out, but I need a ramp for my 45 gal which I'm going to be putting shelves in soon. I'd like to make one of those shelves like a foot high, and I just don't know about the risks.

Hey i used Bristo board for a ramp , don't recommened it since its too thin and slippery, but anyways i don't have it anymore but when i did, i glued smaller bits of bristo board across the ramp making it look like a ladder.
Its like giving them little stepping holds,

sorry i don't have a pic, if you're confused just ask me

dont' worry about it if you don't know it.

People use them for presentations or art palets, its white paper with thin layer of styrofoam stuff in the middle. Its light and somewhat durable, but not for fat ol leos.

you have a very simple and cheap solution to this problem. Go buy some balsa wood (you can get it at hobby stores, model train stores, variety stores, craft stores, ect) and what I would do is buy on very nice long and about 3 inch wide piece of thick balsa wood. Then buy some long narrow pieces and use wood glue to make a ladder (first putting a strip of the narrow wood on the sides of the ramp to act as a "guard rail" if you will.)by putting the narrow strips directly on top of the balsa wood. Your leo will be able to pull him/herself up easier with these planks helping her out. She'll probably feel very safe using this if you construct it as one solid piece. One thing you need to consider before putting this in your tank is how you're going to secure it. Balsa wood is very light and can be tipped over by your leo's weight. Maybe use some velcro to help secure and then make nice thick legs for your ramp .

Now if you don't want to construct anything, petsmart sells a nice ramp, it's suppose to look like bamboo, but it has suction cups so you can stick it to glass.
