FRP with high humidity?

crtoon83 Nov 14, 2004 10:23 PM

In the cage i'm planning on building, the top one is going to be a slightly higher humidity cage for a Chondro. I have heard that the daily misting pretty much will ruin all wood...but i'm wondering if i cover the wood with FRP and seal it well with silicone will this keep the tank from deteriorating? I'm sure that these can last for quite a long time with my colubrid, but I would also like it to last just as long in the potential chondro. If not, what would be a good way to design a cage for a chondro?

Hi Chris,

FRP will be more than good enough for this application. FRP is used in cages for Crocodile Monitors and that's about the most destructive reptile you can keep. In fact, FRP is probably overkill for a Chondro.

Read the cage building links at FineGTPs.com. That design is VERY popular among the Chondro crowd and they're only sealed with contact paper you line drawers with.
