Baby Beardie's Jaw...

Ali-Baba Nov 14, 2004 11:12 PM

I have a baby beardie who's bottom jaw is shifted to one side. It is very slight, and practically unnoticable unless you really look, being only a millimeter or so to one side. I have heard that this could cause a bone disorder when he is older, any suggestions on what I should do?

That is a sign of MBD, which means he is not getting enough calcium. Do you have a UVB light? Do you use calcium suppliments? You may have to take him to a vet, they can give him a calcium injection, and take x-rays to see how bad the bone damage is.

hi
you need a uvb lightning !!
zoomed reptisun 5.0 close to him not farther then 12 inches.
r a powersun uvheat but those need more distance 14 inches away r you burn youre animal.
and you need a nice calsium product to dust with.
i prefeer minerall from sticky toung farms indoor those have a yellow cap .
if you use that in 1 month it can be away !!
uvb/uva is a must for beardies.

When I bought him his jaw was like that (2-3 months ago). I am 100% sure he was captive bred. I have been calcium dusting his food (Rep-Cal & Dragon Dust) since he was born, and he has had a UVB light since he was born. The light is about 10 inches away, I am not sure what kind of light it is, but I know it is broad spectrum.

Broad spectrum or full spectrum bulbs are not necessarily UVB bulbs. UVB is not part of the visible spectrum, so unless the bulb specifically says it has UVB it is probably not a UVB bulb. If it is an incandescent bulb I can guarentee it is not producing any UVB.

If it's MBD it's doesn't sound like it's because of your husbandry. I've heard of (never experienced it) dragons that can't actually process either the d3 or the calcium or both. I had a friend who said one of her dragons was this way and there was nothing that they could do for it?.... Don't know for sure but it's supposed to be a genetic defect. That would definately cause MBD and also a slow growht rate for sure.

Would be something to check into with your vet.....
