Finally... some pics of my ARB (I think a modem warning would be good here)

Here he is, in all his glory. Some of the pics are a little blurry and his cage is still a work in progress.

Thank you!

Can I ask how you could tell? How soon will his markings begin to "fade" or become more monotone? Does this happen quickly or very slowly?

Carmen,
...Identifying snakes based upon coloration or pattern is not the best method. However color and pattern is very different in these two subspecies. Have a look at my "sleepless in Savannah" post to see what typical coloration for an Argentinian Rainbow Boa looks like. The head structure of your Colombian Rainbow Boa, Epicrates cenchria maurus is also very different than this Argentinian Rainbow Boa, Epicrartes cenchria alvarezi. Colombian Rainbow Boas are more full bodied and muscular than Argentinian Rainbows. Argentinian Rainbows have more than 47 middorsal scale rows. I do not know the exact counts to identify Colombian Rainbows but all of them that I have counted had fewer than 47 middorsal scale rows. Your snake will gradually lose a little of the pattern over the next few years. Older adult Colombian Rainbows usually only have a little less visible pattern than your snake does.

Thank you very much!

This snake was given to me and all I was told was that it was a rainbow. It was from my dad who got it from some pet store friend up in Idaho where he lives. He's not the brightest bloke out there, so I wasn't surprised when he didn't know what kind of rainbow it was.

Thanks again!
