I use DBS 1000's in all my racks and I love them. The people at Helix are real nice to deal with to!!

Never tried the other one you mentioned, so I can't make a comparison.

Go with a Ranco, its cheaper and almost as good as the helix

Thanks for the suggestion. I know you can set cooling temps (daylight temps, nighttime temps) with the Helix and Big Apple product. Can you also achieve the same goal with this product?

thanks

I have the Big Apple Proportional Thermostat. I'll be switching soon. Don't get me wrong...I love the little guy...but I hate spending days fine tuning the dial to find a decent temperature when I could simply press a button and set for 90.5 degrees. Also, the others display sensed temperatures. I have to use a second (digital) thermometer to measure the temps. It would be less complex (and probably more accurate) if the thermostat was displaying its own sensed temperature.

Just My Luck,
Chris

I also use the Ranco. I like them, but no night time drop feature.

I change them manually at night and in the morning during breeding, for the rest of the season I leave them constant.
It's not that big of a deal to me. I'm in there anyway and it takes about 5 seconds per unit.

iuse the rancos and the johnson controls thermostats. both are good and accurate. i think a helix or herpstat is good also, but not needed to maintain cage temps. i think they are better suited to incubators for where more precise control is needed.

From what i am reading i think i am going to be replacing my cheap thermosats i have on cages with the Rancos for the on/off power because they are cheaper to run than proportionals.

What about the Herpstat's from Spyder Robotics, anyone use these?...I just ordered one to use on a custom incubator.
