Might need help with new BP.

drasticplastic Nov 15, 2004 01:18 PM

I just picked up a new female BP yesterday, a friend of mine didn't want her anymore. She's about 4 feet long and I've figured about 2-3 years old. I checked her out for a good 2 hours before bringing her home and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary, she's crazy friendly, well tamed and not head shy at all. When I fed her last night, after she finished taking in the tail I noticed her rubbing her face against her feeding box and wheezing, kind of sounded like a very loud hiss. She stopped after about 20 minutes or so, but I swear I heard her again this morning when I woke up. Does this sound like something that any of you have seen before? Should I be worried? I'm just hoping it doesn't have anything to do with respitory infection, but her mouth looks good, although I did noticed before her meal when she "yawned" it looked like she had a string of saliva between her top jaw and her bottom. I know I'm probably not explaining this very well....oh well. Any info would be appriciated. Thanks in advance.

My ball is the same approx. age and size. After feeding he does make a similar wheezing sound. I have had him checked out by his vet and everything is fine. He also does this "wheezing" when he squeezes tightly, for example, if he's hanging onto me and starts to fall, he wheezes when he contricts a little tighter to hold on. But, since you just got her, I'm not sure how much of her history you know, but I'd take her in for a check up and mention it. It's probably nothing, but the vet bill shouldn't be more than $100 for a full check up. Good Luck with her

Thanks for the help. That's most of the problem, I don't really know anything about her history, she came from my ex-girlfriend's brother...so we all know how much communication went on there. I will be making an appointment probably next week to get her checked out just like I do with all my new additions. Thanks again.
