Adding another female leo

Tarzana Jun 30, 2003 07:02 PM

Right now I have one female leopard gecko in her own tank, she is 4 years old and has never been housed in a group. I was planning on buying another female leo and waiting until she was 6 months, or decent size to house her with my other female. They would be in a 20 gallon long tank. I think this should be okay, but I just wanted to get someone elses opinion on it. Thanks

You can try, but watch them. I tried to do this with a leo in a 20 gallon to herself, and she nipped and bit at the other female I tried to put in. I gave up.

It might help if when you introduce them, you take the orginal female out of tank, sterilize evrything, and move cage furniture around, and put them in at the same time, so the old leo think it is a new tank she is being asked to share, rather than a new leo moving into her "territory".

Thankyou for your opinion. I forgot to mention that the female I have now is in a ten gallon by herself, so both of the females would be added to the equally unfamiliar 20 gallon tank. If it does not work out I will ovbiously seperate them and put them in their own ten gallon tanks. Either way I will make sure my babies are happy with the arrangements. Thanks again
