mealworm questions

jscc1657 Nov 15, 2004 03:12 PM

Hi. I have been trying to breed mealworms for my leopard geckos and I have been looking on the web for information, but there are so many different ways to do it, I am getting confused. I have 4 containers, one with the mealworms, one with the pupa, one for the beetles, and one I have for when the beetles become black, (because a web site said to separate them when they turn black). My confusion is that how will I know when the bettles have laid the eggs. One site said that you should always have the mealworms with mealworm, pupa with pupa and beetles with beetles. But won't the beetles just keep laying eggs in whatever container I put them in? By the way, I have all the stages right now, just waiting on the babies to show up.
I hope this makes sense!
Thanks,
Susan

Hi, try Leolovers website, i followed hers and im getting baby mealworms

As for differnt colored beetles, they're the same they just haven' hardened their shells yet. I also seperate the beetles and pupa because the pupa will get eaten and the beetles will eat anything that doesnt move.

You won't be able to see the eggs, but you will know you have them if beetles start dying off. You should then move the beetles to another container to continue the process because the baby mealworms apparently eat the eggs.

Its tough having enough containers to keep them at different life cycles. good luck
