I would appreciate any info on the venom of this species.
Also, does anyone keep this species? Any information on this species is appreciated.
Thanks

Hi mate
Not much is known about the venoms of any of the Calliophis/Maticora species other than they are by and large quite neurotoxic, have caused deaths, and there is no antivenom. Based on taxonomical relationships, there might be some cross reactivity by Micrurus antivenoms but I wouldn't bank on it. The mouths of these snakes is much much larger than it appears at first site. I remember a very cute Calliophis intestinalis that we felt a bit silly handling with the midwest gloves until chomped on it in a very dramatic way.
Neat snakes.
Cheers

I know a friend who got nailed by one last Sunday. There were no effects from the bite. However, I don't know if the bite broke the skin or not. If it did, it's probably still a dry bite. Thought you might be interested anyway.

.... but not something to bank on.
In Pokhara, Nepal, the Swiss herpetologist Schnurrenberger was bitten by a ~25 cm Calliophis (now Sinomicrurus) macclellandi. He ignored the bite, assuming it to be harmless. Neurotoxic symptomns set in after 2 hrs. After 8 hours, he was dead.
