Elaphe sauromates

Newearth Nov 15, 2004 04:37 PM

I have just got a male Elaphe sauromates so far it has not eaten,
no problem as I have only had him a week. Has anyone had any experience with these. What are the best temps and food for these.
I will be taking a few pictures soon.
regards John

I have a trio of sauromates. I've had them for about 2 years. I keep them in the low 80's daytime and let them get into the mid 70s at night. When I got them they would only feed on live mice now they'll take frozen, thawed as well. They are all on adult sized mice. Of the trio, only one female has ever gone off food for a time. Generally they are pretty ravenous. I might start off with a live mouse to try to stimulate his appetatie but of course with live food, you want to monitor the situation carefully and not just toss a mouse in and leave. It is also possible that he's been brumated in the past and his appetite is shutting down in prep for brumation.

Feel free to email if you have any more specific questions.
