Youngster Hiding/Part 2

seductivereptile Nov 15, 2004 04:58 PM

After I logged out, I checked on Isis only to find that she was moving all around her enclosure and shedding. LOL I knew she was up to something, because she hasn't been her usual self lately. She has been hiding through the night and not doing anything but eating then hiding. A little while after she shed I took her out because she had retained a tiny piece of shed on the tip of her tail, I just soaked a washcloth with warm water and let her run through it a few times, it came off. It was 15 inches long, is that normal for a 5 month old? The interesting thing is that she actually let me see her first shed. Wow! I feel so special! Here is her after shed pic.

Can you tell I'm excited??

As far as sheds go, you really can't judge the length of the snake by the shed, since the skin does stretch a little when it comes off. She looks great to me. Congrats!!!!

great photo! it was hard to tell in the first photo that she was in shed. she ought to be extra hungry now. they usually are after a shed. she is a pretty thing!

LOL thanks, I have been working on my picture taking skills. (thanks again, draybar!) When I took her out of her enclosure she was flicking her little tongue like there's no tomorrow. She should enjoy tomorrow, I am going to feed her, even though I usually only feed her once a week. I think she is ready for two meals a week but I wanted to wait considering I haven't had her for long and she seemed sluggish for a bit, due to her shedding.
Here's another picture. I hope she stays that white and pink coloration as an adult.

15" is about normal, but I'd reccomend to step up the feeding a bit, probably to two pinkies or fuzzies a week, whatever is appropriate. Babies want to grow...

um....i'd say 2 fuzzies a week is slightly overkill...id say 2 pinks.

I don't think she could go anything larger than a pinkie right now. She is still quite small around. It won't be long before she will be moving up, but I think I would prefer to be on the safe side and stay with the pinkies for a bit longer. But I was just (today) thinking that I would do two feedings a week, mainly because she seems to want more food. Thanks for the responses, I really appreciate them. I just want to do everything right.

when mine were that small i feed like every 5th day or your could go with 2 pinkies every 7 days. anymore then that would not be good. need to allow time for digestion.
