light bulbs

csilly Nov 15, 2004 07:38 PM

I was wondering if any one has had a problem with the heating lightbulbs that they use for their tanks. In the past month I have gone through at least six bulbs and they keep blowing out on me. I have used different brands and different stores, and I've changed my clamp, timer, and surge protector but nothing is working. It only happens with the night time bulbs and i know that I have the right amount of wattage for my light holder. I have had my turtle for over a year and this has never happened to me until recently? Any ideas??
Please let me know what you think. Thanks so much!!

My pet store told me that those bulbs are super delicate because of the process used to make them, it makes the glass really thin. That being said, there really is no reason to have a night time heat bulb, RES are used to the temp getting cooler at night. I have never had one I just turn my lights off at night. Water takes a long time to cool off, especially in a big tank like mine, and my house is pretty warm, so they are just fine. Unless your house gets down into the 40s at night, I wouldn't worry about nighttime heat.
