Feeding WC Pygmies

RobertPreston Nov 15, 2004 07:47 PM

Yesterday, I obtained a very young juvenile WC pygmy. I live in south Georgia, and this little guy is adorable -- bright yellow tail, very pronounced and detailed pattern, a really impressive animal to be so small. I've kind of been thinking about keeping him/her. I've done some researching on caging, etc. I think I've got caging figured out. What is worrying me is feeding. I thought I'd just toss in a pinkie and see what happens. But I've read some stuff that says that they aren't always receptive to pinkies. What methods have the more experienced keepers used to get these little guys to feed?

9 times out of 10 they will take baby squirrel tree frogs or baby green tree frogs which are fairly easy to find this time of year. Good luck trying pinkies, occasionally it works. If nothing else juvenile 5 lined skinks, ground skinks, and anoles could be a last resort. Let us know how it goes. -Cole

I had no problem getting mine on pinkies. In fact, never even scented them. I just threw a live pinky in there to see what would happen and he ate it right away. In fact now he is even eating defrosted pinkies.
