I posted this image a week ago, but I am only now responding to BackBeat's request for more information. This female was cb from a pair of normal patents. She was raised up with one of her brothers. These two siblings were mated and all of the young were normal. The brother was not het for motley, but if the trait is genetic, all of her offsprings would be. To avoid too much inbreeding a new adult male was acquired and bred to the motley female. 2.2 off spring from this mating was retained. Only one male was needed, but you can never have too many emories. When these babies were raised up and momma was mated to her son and the sisters mated their brothers, only one somewhat motley hatching was produced. The somewhat motley hatching came from an egg that was shriveled due to a lack of moisture(the clutch was laid while I was out of town). I think the original female pattern is due to some stress she experience while she was developing in her egg. Unlike a motley corn snake, she has a normal checkered pattern on her belly. I suspect that if her pattern was genetic, she would lack the checker pattern. Has anyone seen abnormal patterns due to incubation stress. I know this happens, but I would like to hear some personal experiences.
