im getting a sudanese uro this weekend. this is my eclose with out the hides. it has one hide that ill have soil in it. but this is the bare minimum. it has about 3" of bedding, and the heat light, and uvb are mounted right to the lid of the container. the heat is about 8" from the ground, so he cant touch it. its 36"l x 24" x 24". what do you all think?

Is that a humid hide in there? If it is then he/she won't need it like a leopard gecko does, if not then I really need to finish waking up.

I think it looks good. Just be sure that it cannot get to the light. Uro's are very creative.

chubby is one smart little son of a gun. hes my mali. so yeah, he deff cant get to it. but, from what i understand, and including chubby, uros do like to have hides that are slightly humid. only cause there burrowing, and the burrows, no matter how dry the area, are ussually a little bit humid.

Just out of curiosity, what substrate are you using? I can't tell from the picture.

Like Triad, I would really watch that the Uros can't reach the lighting, they are tricky little buggers, and really good at standing on their tails! lol. Also, it looks like you are using a plastic light socket, I would be very very very very careful with that, and would recommend switching to a porcelin fixture as soon as you can. I know the plastic ones are rated high enough to accept the wattage, but I have heard a lot of horror stories regarding them melting and doing other nasty things. You may also be using a porceling fixture with a black coating, in which case I apologize.

What are your temps?

I like your creative use of a rubbermaid tank and plexiglass!

it is plastic, but its rated for 150 construction spot lights. that black light is only 75 watt. the temp gradiant for day goes from 75 degrees at the far end from the light, then up to 97-100 degrees directly under the light. thanx for the complments.

Is there an additional basking spot in there? The ambient temps sound great, but don't forget they need a basking spot of 120-120 degrees!

I love Sudanese!! They have such great colors!

I have a *slightly* humid hide in my uros' tanks and they use them all the time - helps with shedding, too.

Is your UVB a fluorescent? If so, your new buddy won't actually get any UVB from it, since it's well over 12" from the bulb. I have a UVB meter, and they aren't kidding about that "no more than 12" away" rule. There's almost nothing!
