What do you LOVE/HATE about your Gecko supplier?

tethered Nov 16, 2004 01:40 AM

Hello all.

Long time reader, first time poster. I've learned a lot from some of the posts I find here, specifically ones about caring for baby Leos. The literature doesn't cover all of the unforeseeable issues that arise, but you all, with your diverse backgrounds and experiences shed some light where it is needed. Thank you for that.

With that said, I've been breeding Leos for some time now and have established a good relationship with nearby pet stores who purchase them. I enjoy the process very much and am contemplating quitting my day job and focusing on doing this full time. Now, I understand that the market is sort of saturated, but the progress I've made thus far is telling me that an expansion can be successful. I intend to proceed carefully, feeling out the situation and testing the water as I go, and I hope that you all can help me by answering the following question:

What it is that you LOVE and/or HATE about your Herp/Gecko supplier?

Thanks in advance,

Richard

I love being able to call or e-mail my suppliers to ask them questions. I consider the best breeders I've bought from to be my friends who are interested in hearing updates, seeing pictures, even knowing the names of the geckos I've bought form them.

What I hate is if I encounter a health problem in an animal I purchase and suspect that the breeder may have it going around the rest of the colony but does absolutely nothing about it. I would rather have the assurance that the breeder cares enough to do spot-check fecal tests on his colony and/or improve husbandry instead of offering me reimbursement of some sort.
