Help with eggbound veiled

daveman Jun 30, 2003 07:56 PM

Hi all. I'm having some problems with what I believe to be an eggbound female. Shes amost three years old, and shes never mated. A little over a week ago I noticed her behavior changed. Instead of staying in her tree, she stayed at the bottem of her cage trying to dig. Two days of this happening, I put a three gallon bucket filled almost to the top with moist sand in her cage. Right away she began to dig a tunnel. The next day she stayed away from the bucket so I took it out and went through it, no eggs. I put the bucket back in, she started digging again. But after a small tunnel was built, she just kinda layed in the sand. Shes been sleeping alot more and appears to be pretty weak. She will not eat, I but her bowl full of crickets right in front of her and she just sits there. So today I bought a big kitchen style trashcan. I filled it with about 8 inches of moist sand, put in a couple of small branches, then put her in there. Shes been in there for about 3 hours and havenbt moved, still refusing food. I'm not sure at this point what I should do after this, does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks for reading all of this...

Hi there,

In the trashcan, did you leave any crix? If so, remove them immediately. To help her, you could start a hole for her. Do it somewhat deep, not a whole tunnel for her. This should make her lay.
