i wanted to build a new enclosure in my free time, except i get no free time. But i was at work yesterday a big company where my father is a carpenter and i mentioned to him to save some scrap wood for me. Well when i went back at lunch time he had one all framed up to the size i wanted lol i just have to put on some finishing touches. so in a day or two hope fully ill have some pics up for u all to comment on. I have one question this perilite or whateva it is the white stuff that alot of you use as substrate for egg laying... can this be left in at all times does it dry up or expire? do u just keep wetting it to keep it good? do u change it on a certain pattern? and exactly how large or small a container and have shallow or deep should it be
Thanks to all the experts im hopeing to here from you.
And i cant post and not say hi to DeadOkt and agirl&herguy!
talk to u soon
Dave

that's cool that he got a cage almost all finished up for you.
i've never used perlite but use vermiculite. the stuff is basically little shavings of minerals and i'm sure you could use it over and over. however there's not much point in it, you get a huge bag of it for like 7 bucks at just about any flower/garden shop. so not put it directly in the cage as it will be digested by the geckos and will surely kill them. ( found this out the hard way)
i'm sure perlite is the same way and would not want to leave it in the same cage as the geckos.

thank you,
so i guess what u r saying is u offer soil or something and then put the eggs in the vermiculite yourself? im glaad you told me i didnt realize that is how it was done thanks agian
i hope to hear from every one else as well

that's what i use. i prefer using eco earth as it seems to be very clean and holds the moisture quite well.
then i use a 1:1 weight ratio of water to vermiculite in the incubator and press the eggs down very lightly in it so about 3/4 or more of the egg is still exposed.

I will tell you one thing, I loved decorating my enclosure...as far as the construction of it....that was Ellena's husband. He's gettin into the business of custom built reptile enclosures.

Okay, I think that validated my post. Hello Dave!!! *smooch*
