Mud Snakes?

gentlemantw0 Nov 16, 2004 03:32 PM

I would love to keep this snake but I cannot find any for sale. Does anyone know of anyone selling them or does anyone habe suggestions on where I could find one, ie: time of day/year/ habitats, etc. Thankyou for your help.

Mud snakes' main diet are amphiumas in the wild.
I've never heard of switching one over to frozen thawed by scenting them with this eel like amphibian.

Because of the difficult husbandry requirements, most animals for sale will be wild caught. Parasites, stress and acclimitization to captivity will be challenging.

I have seen several of these animals, and they are indeed beautiful with the shiny red and black coloration.

Just letting you know what you will probably be getting into.

Good luck

Hey thanks a lot I just sent them an e-mail. I know of this snakes particular feeding habits and amphiumas and salamanders are readily available to me. Many of the snakes are wild caught, which is still something I'm considering. Would it be possible to find one this time of year and where would I look?

This time of year I would guess Florida would be the only place to catch mud snakes.

They are genrally secretive and only come out during certain times of the year when conditions are conducive.

Try a search on google for more info.

Good luck.

I've seen babies at the Taylor, MI and Columbus, OH show this last month. Very pretty. The mother snake was huge.

Does anyone know the record size?
