My new adoptee Spike went to the vet for the first time and it was found he had parasites (strongyl?). He had a month of de-worming, then I was supposed to take another sample to the vet.
During the deworming, he was only pooping maybe once a week - the rescuers who had him for a while before giving him to me said the same thing. He was eating fine, is fairly friendly, and very active. He just didn't poop much. I gave him a couple of soaks for general hydrating purposes, and his temps are very toasty for the period of de-worming (basking 131, hot side 107, cool side 88).
The day of his last dose of panacur, he pooped a mile - including a very hard, rough, yellowish mass, about the size of a large lima bean. Since then, he's been pooping every day or every other day.
The vet could not tell what it was, but thought it might be a mass of calci-sand that had cemented itself together in there. Fortunately, whatever it was, Spike passed it with no harm done.
And Spike is now parasite free - hurrah!
