Brumating uro....few questions, not to beat a dead horse though...

xItch45 Nov 16, 2004 04:55 PM

So, Fluffy has been slowing down. I have read just about every post on here to deal with brumation, but i still have a few (thanks in advance for reading the word brumation yet another time) questions about it. I am at school most of the day, and work until 7. when i come home his food has been touched every few days (1-3). Lights are on 10 hours a day, and he gets food everyday. He is Wild Caught, i should mention. I don't remember him slowing down as much. Basking temp (surface temp according to my tempgun®) is over 130ºF. Air temps range from 70-90. about 60 at night. he sleeps in my burrow i made out of a shoebox sized rubbermaid tub w/ a 6" long dryer hose entrance (works great).

Sound good to be a brumating uro, or is something wrong and he needs med. help??

thanks

it sounds like he is just slowing down for the winter to me. would you have any reason to think he is sick? are his poos ok, his breathing sounds fine? none of my lizards are eating as much as they used to. i still go through all the motions, i just offer them less food now and it still does not all get eaten

Yup, unless he is exhibiting other behaviours that concern you it sounds like he is just slowing down. I have found if I keep the nighttime temps a little higher that my Uros don't slow down as much in the winter, but I think that is a preference issue and not a quality of care issue.
