No More Pampering!

ForestTime Nov 16, 2004 06:13 PM

When we first adopted Forest, I found his previous owners 1)gave him protien on a regular basis, 2)used a useless spray-on calcium suppliment on his food thinking it was awesome & 3)didn't use a uvb light for the boy. For this & some other reasons, I figured Forest's bones may not be very good for climbing (that & I have never seen him get his fat hiney more than 2 feet off the ground when he has tried to climb a tree).

I felt bad for him & even built him ramps to get on/off his bed so he wouldn't have to exert himself. Ha!!!!

Yesterday I put Forest out on his chair/basket to bask as I do every day. I was painting my kitchen & lost track of time. About an hour later, I SWEAR I heard him crawl through the door & assumed he was on his way to his bed. About an hour later I went to give him a rub & realized he was not there. I looked outside & he wasn't on his chair either. I freaked.

He has never wandered. After he does his "business" he always comes inside to lay back on his bed. I looked all over the yard at ground level cause I figured he couldn't climb, right? Well, I came to the neighbor's fence & heard a squirell raising hell & looked up to see what his problem was & there, 4 feet off the ground, WITH NO RAMP, was my lazy lizard soaking up the sun/shade. He was apparently making the squirell mad, hence all the noise.

This is how I found him. Soooooooo, no more pampering the turd. Not able to climb, my foot!

I love your stories too & although I don't post a bunch, I think about you guys all the time. Was REALY worried during her egg-bound deal earlier this year (that and your stressful wedding!)

I love all the stories from you guys (Sam-N-Ella, where have you been?)!!! LOL.

I often wonder if Forest is possessed & likes to see how much I can handle in one day! LMAO.

Thanks!

Terri

That's so funny!

Has he ever had an x-ray? More than likely, he's starting to regain some of that bone density that he lost. In three months, Xander had regained 1/2 of his lost bone density, and was supporting himself on his rear legs.

I love that picture!

His owners are building their house right now which got pushed way back because of the hurricanes this year & now we're into the holidays so...no visit for a while.

All that said, I decided when it DOES happen that I'm just going to tell them, nicely as I can, that he may not be as FAT as he used to be but Forest is DEFINATLEY healthier than he has ever been.

I just love the lizard to death & while I know they did the best they could, they were very ignorant as to iguana health. He's NOT a dog.

Can't wait to see what Forest has in store for me today! LOL

Thanks guys.

Terri

I am going to try & be sincerely nice about it & I hope they don't say anything derogative.

We have changed everything about the boy, diet, light, space to roam, heat, etc & I KNOW he's doing better now.

I just love the boy to death & would do anything for him. Even if it means no "ggodies" like he used to get.

He's loved & well taken care of & we're all happy. NO! they can NOT have him back. LOL
