Lazy Tegu

charky2002 Nov 16, 2004 06:37 PM

In the last couple of weeks my Arg B W tegu has started to behave quite differently. Some days he is active and alert feeds well ect, but other days he won't eat, and just kinda lays around for a long time under the heatlamp and then retreats to his hideut. This type of day is starting to happen more and more aften and i'm getting a little worried he definitly is not eating as much as he uset to, his tail is still nice and fat but he feels lighter. I'm thinking he might just want to hibernate but i'm new to tegus so I don't really know how this works?
Is it common for them to be active and eating one day but being totally different the next few days. Right now I am waiting for him to do his business so I can take some in for a fecal exam just incase. Any help/info would be appreciated. Thanks.

It sounds like your are taking proper action. It's probably just a matter of wanting to hibernate, but taking the stool sample as you plan is always the best route to take to be sure.

Is this common behaviour for a tegu that is trying to hibernate then? I'm still going to bring a fecal in either way.
