ACK! PIPPED EGG, NO GECKO!

Aesear Jun 30, 2003 08:39 PM

ok, about 40 minutes ago I noticed that one of my eggs had pipped but I still don't see any sign of the little guy. no nose showing or anything and the egg isn't moving. I don't want to make any mistakes and everyone has told me that its best if the baby makes it out of the egg on its own and just to let mother nature take its course but on the other hand I had heard that if the baby pipps the egg and then doesn't get its nose out quickly it can drown in the fluids. is this true? could anyone shed some light on this subject? thanks!

When this happened to me I didn't help it for like four hours and swhen I did the baby was dead. It also didn't look quite right, its tail was really fat and not long enough.

so should I help it or not? I don't want to help it if that will prove damaging to it but I don't want it to die if I could have saved it. urrrrg!

I'd hate to be the bringer of bad news...

But the 4 times this season I had an egg pip with no little gecko nose or head sticking out they were already dead. Some just aren't strong enough to pull themselves out of the egg I suppose.

Good luck with your eggs.

that's right. I opened the egg just a bit to see if it was still alive...then a bit more...and the egg was empty!!! I checked the incubator and then checked it again and again. I officially have an escaped baby gecko. it could be ANYWHERE in this mess of a computer den. I don't know how it could have gotten out though. I always make sure the incubator is firmly closed every time after I open it to check on the eggs/take out hatchlings. grrrr. what am I going to do?

I just went to feed my oldest male to find...No male!

I have no idea where he went either so it looks like we'll both be turning the rooms upside down.

hehe well at least yours is full grown (I'd assume). that would have to make for a bigger target so to speak. *grins* and your house probably isn't as messy as mine. oh well. let the great hunts begin!

The same thing happened to me.. sorta. I had two babies hatch a week ago and I hadn't had their set-up setup yet so I had to put them in a small card board box and they were ok in there and the next day I took picture and put them away and then when I came home one was missing. I have tore through the WHOLE house and cant find the little guy anywhere! I have no clue where she could be.

cute little darling she is. hope you find her! I have grave doubts as to whether I'll be able to find mine in my warren of a house. I'm gonna have to take to making sneak attacks on the computer den in the middle of the night. it seems like there is a rash of escapee's lately. good luck to all of us!
