Best way to tame aggressive baby Childrens Python

WVherper Nov 16, 2004 10:07 PM

I recently added a Children's Python to my collection of snakes.. This ia the first one that has been REALLY aggressive since coming home with me and now a month later, not much better. Of course the bites don't really hurt, just startle me still. Is there hope for this one to at least tolerate handling? What's the best way to "train" him/her to accept it? Thanks so much!

That is how many of them are. Instinctively, the babies are aggressive. You shouldn't concern yourself to change that. In time, the snake will calm down by itself. Adults are usually extremely tame.

I think babies do best when not handled more than necessary.

My experience has been that they tend to be bitey for about a year, then one day simply decide to be well-mannered creatures. Of course, some are docile from the start, and I do have a 3 year old who still enjoys watching me bleed, but she is an exception, not the standard. Just keep handling your baby gently for short periods of time, a couple times per week. They are such awesome irridescent adults that the baby bites are worth it, in my opinion.
