Females not dropping eggs

dleeroach Nov 17, 2004 02:41 AM

I was wondering if anyone could help me out a little bit. I have four pairs of D. Auratus. I have successfully bred tincs for a while, but these are my first auratus. Unfortunately, I can't get the females to drop their eggs. I was wondering if anyone could help me out. My set up goes like this. I have each pair in a ten gallon aquarium. I use a false bottom set up with coconut fiber as a substrate. I have spagmum moss over the coconut fiber. Then, I have pothos planted in the tank. There is a coco hut in each tank with a petri dish beneath it. I have been trying shorter photo periods and more frequent misting, but nothing. Can anyone tell me if there is something else I could try or something I need to be doing differently. Thanks!

Are you sure you have a pair? I have always had a hard time sexing auratus...

If indeed you do have 2 pairs, you might try swapping the males between the two tanks.

...good point. I have gone back and forth on that. The differences do seem REALLY subtle in auratus. I'm just going by what the person I purchased them from told me. He sent them paired up in containers, so I'm just trusting him. Maybe I should try experimenting a little bit though. Thanks for the response! -David
