Collared regurgitating food..

reptoman Nov 17, 2004 10:18 AM

I have a question, has anyone decided what or why some lizards including Collareds regurgitate their food from time to time.
I have heard several different things, including to cold-need higher temps, over feeding-to much at one time, to hot-need to cool it down? My dickersonae regurgitated his food yesterday, I have had horned lizards and others in the past do this, I am not concerned, but thought I would throw this out for the sake of conversation. Looking at the end product it looks like maybe he over-ate or better yet his care giver (me) put to much offering in the cage. Just curios if anyone else has run into this as well and what your take might be on this???

Hey buddy ! I believe its a bit of all the things you mentioned.

I have sen some who can not digest superworms well and will spit them up soon after eating. To them I usually pick out the freshly shed (soft white ones) and that solves their particular problem.

Some do over eat, and yes, sometimes they may not be heated enough to digest well.

So a little of all I suppose. I have seen it happen with mine also. It does seem to me though from taking notice, it usually is the same lizards, from time to time. Maybe they just have a weaker digestive system than others.

I have some that will eat anything, and lots of it and never regurgitate. Interesting ! I always think about it too.

But like I say I will pick the softer bugs for the spitters, heheheheh.

Great looking little Boy Blue ya have there!

I think your right, I hope he doesn't do it often, and yes that's a good idea about the white ones, also I like that name "little boy blue". I very seldom name my animals, but this guy is a pet more than a project, as is the fringe-toed sand lizard, so I was thinking of naming him, I think I might adopt that name if you don't mind.....Thanks for the response! Cheers
