Leucistics out of hets

moodyfamily Nov 17, 2004 02:02 PM

I wanted just to poll, if you don't mind, a question. Has anyone purchased hets and truly gotten marketed leucistics out of them? I know there is no true leucistic, but the marketed ones are what I am speaking of.
If so, who did you purchase them from and what were the results?
Het to het or 66% to 66%.
I think this would help lots of viewers with questions concerning the het/leucistic question.
Some input from regulars here would also be nice.

Yep sure have. The "leucistic" trait is simple recessive so here's an example of how it works.

Pure Leucistic x 100% het leucistic = 50% of clutch pure leucistic and 50% of clutch 100% het leucistic

100% het leucistic x 100% het leucistic = 25% of clutch pure leucistic and the rest are 66% het leucistic (66% of them will be het the other 33% won't).

You can predict the outcomes using a Punnet square. Check out this link, it gives a graphical view.

Hope that helps.

I just did two weeks ago. The male het was from Dragons Den directly and the female het was from another source. The clutch was 16 eggs, 14 of which hatched. Out of the 14 hatchlings, 5 are definitely leucistics.
