oh no! help!

umop_apisdn Nov 17, 2004 02:02 PM

upon looking over my satnics today, i realized one at the top of the cage had his knee sticking thru the screen, and there was a tiny bit of blood, and it seemed as though he had struggled thru the night to free his knee from the hole in the screen. the blood was still red, not brown, so i could tell it had just recently happened. anyway, i had to cut him out of the screen and remove a few small pieces of wire that had irritated their way thru his skin. once i got it off, you cant even see the injury its so tiny. but i wanted to know, whats best to put on it for a little wound like this? i have heard neosporin in the past. i want to dash to the store to get something to treat him with...any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! and cheers to my gecko for putting up with me cutting him out without dropping his tail! im sure it was excruciating for him, but he's walking it off like nothing happened.

I've used nesporin on my female gargoyles after the male beats them up, it works great. I would worry about making sure it is well hydrated and eating. Besides that, geckos seem to be pretty good healers. Good luck,

Jack

well i applied the neosporin and although at first he seemed confused by it, he's moving about without any limp. blood loss was minimal, and it only happened overnight so i doubt he will suffer any adverse effects from this experience. anyway, just in case i have quarantined him.

Make sure you keep him hydrated. Keep in mind blood loss is relative to the of the animal.

*size of the animal.

yea, i always take that into account. of course ill have a close eye on him for the next week or so while he heals up to see if anything happens, like dehydration. he will be kept well hydrated nonetheless. thanks for the quick replies guys.
