Black Beard?

kismet Nov 17, 2004 02:39 PM

Hello,
I have a 6 month old male beardie and up until today he was the picture of health. Weighs 260 gm and eats like a horse. However, he has eaten very little these past few days and this morning his beard was completely black and he was very lethargic. I've seen his beard turn black when he gets aggressive, however, this isn't the case now. His beard has stayed black all day and he is still lethargic (eyes half shut, head kind of droopy).
Don't know whether to worry or not -- I've had someone suggest he may be getting ready to brumate, but I don't think that would make his beard turn black. I've also read that a black beard (combined with his behaviour changes) may be a sign of distress.
There have been no changes in his environment -- it's the same as it's always been. We did a fecal float a few weeks ago (got a new microscope and wanted to play!) and it was clean.
Any info you could provide would be appreciated. Worrying myself to death!

Sounds like he's sick. With what I have no idea. I'd take him to a vet for a check up.
