2 baby bearded dragons..

geckoninja Nov 17, 2004 03:29 PM

Well, I was wondering if I bought two cb baby beardies would a 55 gallon or 50 long tank be enough for like 2-3 months to house them?

Any input is good... also what kinda substrate is good for babies.. I heard sand is bad for young dragons because they can eat it and it can cause impaction.

It should be but you'll have to separate them before they hit 5 months old. Good substrates for babies are paper towels, shelfliner, and newspaper.

Thanks for the advice... also why split them up at around 5 months? I plan On seperating in about 3 months..but why around 5 months.. just wanna learn some info :-D

Also is there some kinda uvb bulb for a round heatlamp type of clamp light fixture...instead of the tube lights...

First the UVB thing, yes there is but they're not as effective as the tube lights or the MVB's. They're called UVB coil lights, if you do a search on them here you'll probably find more info.
The reason I say that they need separated by 5 months old is because that's when they can start hitting sexual maturity and you don't want accidental breeding at that age.

Oh thats what I thought about the 5 months thing...

And the coil lights are the the crappy ones...or the good ones... ill just go with the tube lights... and recommendations for a site or store with the light fixtures and lights I need.. Im getting the tank this weekend and looking to see what fixtures I need.. besides the UVB I just need like a 60 watt heating lamp bulb in one of those black dome shapped light fixtures right?

and I heard repti-sun 5.0 or what ever is good..what do you think?

Ya reptisun 5.0 is a fine bulb. In addition to it yes you will need a heat lamp of some sort, I'd save your money and pick up a spot light or flood light at walmart for this.

Amen to that! Just as an experiment I bought flood lights from lowes to day for 3.33 a piece that were rated at 65 watts. I put it in place of all my cages and found that it raised the basking temp in the cages that had 75 watt reptile bulbs from ripoffsmart. I am going to return these overpriced bulbs tomorrow. The only cage, my juvicage that is 3x3 that it was actually lower temp was when I replaced it with the 150 watt basking bulb and that only dropped it 7 degree's. (I like to keep this cage 80 on the cool side and 115 on the hot side for the young ones) I also buy my lamps from lowes too! They are 50% cheaper as well.

ummm do you have a model or whatnot of the flood lights you bought... i never thought of that lol... so you think I will need two? or are they on the bigger side...or what...and the cage is a 50long or 55 gallon...dont know what im buying yet...well anyways do I need uvb lights across the whole top of the tank? like for side to side or just a majority of it..

I've been switched to these for a while. Heat is heat. Just be sure to buy one marked halogen flood. 90w is the max i've found but they have the same output as a 150w regular reptile bulb.

That's exactly right. They look the same and put out the same amount of light also!
