Radiant Heating Panels

crtoon83 Nov 17, 2004 03:57 PM

I just looked over at big apple herp, they have a RHP thats 23"x11" for ~$40. Would I just need that one panel for a 4' long by 2' deep and 2' tall cage? Or would I have to do two?

Where can I find vents, and what kinds are reccomended? I completely have forgot this whole aspect of the cage building! lol. Should I just use like a mini vent for a heating duct or where can I find an adjustable vent? I tried big apple herp and lll reptile.

Try hardware stores.... Home Depot, Lowes or Ace. If your vent is to big and not holding the humidity or temps that you want, you can always put something on the back of the vent to partially block it up.

Look for "register" on thier sites. You will get more hits then using, "vent".

I was looking for some unique ones for myself and thought Id try EBay, they have some also.

Hi Chris,

Are those RHP's called Desert Rays or something like that? I've heard they are not very good. My first choice for a RHP would be the Pro Products Pro Heat.

Regarding vents, since you're using oak, just find oak heating register covers at Home Depot. You can cover up slits with clear tape to control humdity.

At Home Depot I'm sure you could find severl choices. Grate end caps for PVC pipe would also work.

yes, it's a desert rays brand. I looked at those, for the size I need, it'll cost me $100 including shipping. Could I get by with just that one RHP for the chondro and keep my light heating for the colubrids, since they wont need the humidity control like my chondro will?

Well I'm sure you could get by with the light heating for the colubrids, but I'm not so sure about that RHP for the Chondro.

I'm going to have to leave the RHP issue to others. I'm only proving you with what's been written here and on other forums. On that note, you might check some of the "other" Chondro forums for opinions.

I would use a standard 6 X 10 inch metal louvered vent. It can be opened and closed easily. I currently have an oak vent and it doesn't close very well to really control venting.

I think that will be fine. Attach it to the right or left side of the enclosure, that way one side is warmer then the other. You are using a controller for it, right?
