I am looking for a carpet python that will stay a reasonable size. i am looking at the irian jaya carpets and the jungle carpets. does anyone know some information on these. what size do they get and what are friendlier and have better colors. Pictures would be greatly appreciated.

this is my jungle. she is about 6 foot long and eats large rats. she is real docile with handling and even when i disturb her she will let me pick her up. i don't know anything about the IJ carpets except i think they are smaller. jungles get 5-7 foot. a resonable size to handle by yourself. i'm single woman and wanted a big snake but not a big snake i couln't handle by myself. www.acreptiles.com is a great site for carpets.

Generally speaking Irian Jayas are slightly smaller, although some females have been recorded in excess of 7 feet. This is uncommon for the most part. Most males stay under 6 feet, and in my experience with the very few I've had they are quite docile and adapt to frequent handling. As far as colors, and which is the most attractive.....well that's up to your prefernce. I think that the bold black/yellow jungles are extroardinary, while IJ's possess colors that no jungle will ever have. They are both great snakes, and good ones to work with.

Get both! They both are awesome animals. Will Leary, Tim Schroeder, & Selective Origins(Willich & Turner)are some breeders who have awesome Jungle Carpets. Spitfire(Yasser) & Anthony C.(sorry, don't know how to spell the last name) are some breeders who have great Irian Jayas. Good luck!

I couldn't agree more.....all of those mentioned are excellent people to do business with and they have killer animals.

Thanks for the plug both of ya. Carpets in general are great animals, they're all pretty much the same with some differences in size and color/patterning. You can't go wrong with a jungle or an irian jaya. I'm definitely a jungle guy, but enjoy my irians thoroughly as well. Carpets are great, as everything morelia is I wish I had some new pics to sway you in the jungle direction lol, I guess an old one might work. Jaremy Douglas is another guy working with some great Irians. And Bob Futo is another great Jungle guy. Best of luck deciding.
