a few new pics of my new bairds rat snakes

draybar Nov 17, 2004 05:52 PM

I got a new pair of bairds rat snakes today.
I had been working on this trade for a while and all now complete with two happy parties involved.

These snakes haven't been handled much if any at all and were a little tense but I should be able to tame them down considering I didn't get bitten and only slightly musked.

The first two pics are of the female

.

Male

.

once again I have noticed that the male has more yellow while the female has more bronze.
I seem to be the only one that sees this trend in bairdis.
Of course, I see things differently then most people anyway...lol

Mine are still young, but I'm already noticing my female is a little darker and the male seems to be lighter between the scales already. Your new pair looks very nice, is it from a bloodline we know?

I am not real sure on their history.
I worked for a month or so to get the trade particulars in order but never took the time to find out their history.
I have e-mailed him for a little more info so hopefully I will know more by tomorrow.

My adults are definitely that way (see the pics down the page a ways). The trio I had of yearlings were showing the same trend coming on. The female was quite orange in the background, the males more yellow.

BTW, nice pinkish hue on the head of the male.

I did notice it when I saw your photos Hurley. GREAT photos by the way.
I also saw it on quite a few other posts of people's bairdis but when I mentioned it I only got one response and it was basically to say they hadn't really noticed the trend.
But, I'm on it now...
No bairdi photo will go by without close inspection......LOL

I notice the exact opposite, actually. My male is a lot more slivery and my female more yellow. Very nice addition, Jimmy.

And I see we share common thoughts on the lords of the rings...let the snakes do their business all over 'em. lol.

Good eye Chris.
I didn't even realize what box was in there.
Actually I am a big fan of The Lord Of The Rings. I read the Hobbitt and then The Lord Of The Rings trilogy when I was in 7th grade, for the first time, and several times since.
That computer game sucked though.
I have found that computer game boxes make excellent hides for rack system boxes. Low profile to offer security but enough "floorspace" for a decent sized snake to curl up in comfortably.

thats worth a month of negotiating......

as far as colors being different.....i have noticed, but counted it to being coincidental and not enough pics to know for sure....
The parents to mine are the oposite....but that may mean that the male is just exceptional and the female more average

only time will tell......everyone post as many pics as you can lol
