Egg Laying--HELP

bboyfrisk Nov 17, 2004 06:41 PM

Hey Guys, I purchased a female veiled about 6 months ago. Shes had baby blue spots for a while now, which im assuming means shes ready to lay soon. I placed a bucket with about 6 inches of slightly moist peatmoss(keeping it digable) in the cage when she started this new coloration. Now for the past couple days she goes to the bucket, digs a hole, sits there in the hole where i cant see her, then comes back out. No eggs are there. Shes done this 3 times now. Whenever she starts towards the bucket, i leave the room, leave the door open a crack so she cant see me, and spy on her. Is this normal? This is her first time laying. Theres just an awful ammount of digging and not alot of laying, its starting to worry me.
Thanks

I wouldn't worry too much just yet. Are the eggs fertile? First time Moms don't have any experience at laying, she may be trying to find just the perfect spot. Is she still eating? If she is, then she's not quite ready to lay yet.

sometimes for days before laying the eggs. She wants to find just the perfect spot. If you have a small non toxic plant you can put in the laying tub sometimes they like to lay eggs at the foot of a tree or plant right near the roots. I guess they think when the babies are born they have something to climb up right away. Well, maybe they don't think that, they probably just know it. LOL
