How Much???

tigerlilie2 Nov 17, 2004 06:57 PM

Alright, well I have a 100% het albino female ball right now and a het albino male too. The thing is, is he is 497 grams right now (just about old enough to produce - no sperm plugs), and she's only 210 grams. In order to get her to breeding size in the next two years how often do you recommend I feed her. She currently take a mounse once a week..should I UP it to about every 4-5 days or is every 7 days adequate enough in order to get her weight up?
I've noticed that once they get big enough to take rats they tend to get larger quicker. Or maybe its just me...How often do you feed your young (someday to be breeders) ball pythons? She seems to gain approx 5 to 7 grams from each feeding right now. I weigh her before each feed.

I'd switch her over to rats if you really want her to grow faster. Snakes fed exclusively on mice tend to grow much slower in my experience. at 200 grams she should be able to take rat hoppers/ just weaned rats. Try feeding her 1-2 of those every 4-5 days and see how she responds. I think you will be suprised by her growth then.

And the best time to feed off baby rats is right before they wean off of the mother...that seems to be when they are the fattiest and if you feed a snake one of those each time....you'll be suprised at how quick it gains weight....

A 200 gram Ball should be eating rat pups, not weanlings. No sense in stretching them that much.
